About ALLAN KAMBA

Allan is a seasoned Engineering Leader and Grid Modernization Expert with 15+ years of transformative impact in Uganda’s energy sector, specializing in advancing grid reliability, digital innovation, and sustainable infrastructure. Prominent for his technical acumen and strategic foresight, he has pioneered cutting-edge solutions to optimize electricity distribution, enhance cybersecurity, and future-proof Africa’s power networks.

As Head of Network Plant and Systems at UMEME (Uganda’s largest electricity distributor), Allan spearheaded the operational and technological overhaul of critical grid infrastructure, managing 300+ technical professionals across SCADA, substation operations, metering, and protection systems. His leadership drove the implementation of a data-driven network automation strategy, achieving 95%+ system availability—a milestone that reduced downtime-related losses and elevated service reliability for millions of customers. He also directed landmark digital transformation projects, including the rollout of an Outage Management System (OMS), Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMR), and field mobility apps, slashing fault detection and resolution times significantly.

Allan’s academic credentials include a BSc in Electrical Engineering (Makerere University), Post Graduate Diplomas in Project Management (Uganda Management Institute) and Electrical Power Systems Engineering (University of Manchester), and a near-complete master’s in electrical systems (Engineering Institute of Technology, Australia). He further honed his leadership prowess through the Strathmore Management Development Program and the prestigious Franklin Covey’s Executive Training.

An active member of IEEE and the Electrical Regulatory Authority Grid Code Committee, a Global Industrial Cyber Security Professional and a certified asset manager, Allan shapes national standards for grid resilience and renewable integration. He is a vocal advocate for sustainable energy systems, leveraging automation and ISO 55000-aligned practices to bridge Uganda’s energy access gap.
